Geography

The literal translation from the Greek word ‘Geographia’ is earth’s writing. Therefore the aim of Geography at IMFS is for our students to understand the very nature of the planet and atmosphere in which we live. The interconnectedness of our earth will be explored in a way that allows our students opportunity to wonder at the physical, human and environmental nature of our planet – how our earth has written its’ story.

William Hughes (1863) said ‘Geography is a thing not of mere names, but of argument, reason, cause and effect.’

Students will explore how everything from simple erosion to overwhelming volcanic explosions can affect our everyday lives.  They will, through independent research and exploration, come to terms with some of the most important issues facing human kind today.
