The School Day

Like other schools, we have a school week from Monday to Friday; our students take many traditional subjects and the core curriculum is similar to many other secondary schools in the area. Where Ingleby Manor Free School differs is in the way that we take advantage of our longer school day to offer a much wider range of creative, vocational and sports based subjects.

Formal learning starts at 8.30am and we continue classes until 4.30pm each day with the exception of Friday which sees an early finish to formal study at 2.30pm. There are, of course, a range of supervised activities on Friday afternoons for those students wishing to access them.

Our extended school day allows us to offer a wider range of opportunities to our students. Mornings generally comprise of the core subjects whilst afternoon sessions allow students to explore some of their preferred subject areas in more depth as well as tasters in a wide variety of specialist areas. Alongside this formal study there are timetabled Independent Study sessions for each student to enable extension and consolidation tasks to be completed.

At lunchtime all students are encouraged to eat in our restaurant – our meals are all prepared on site by our own chef.
